What does the test analyse?
The bacteria living in your gut: thousands of species mapped for digestion, immunity, metabolism and gut-brain health.
How is it different from a standard gut-health test?
Many gut tests use 16S sequencing, which reads a single marker gene and usually stops at the bacterial family or genus. Shotgun metamicrobiome sequencing reads all of the DNA in your sample, so bacteria are identified to species level and the report can show what they are able to do, such as producing short chain fatty acids or vitamins, not only which are there.
Do I need digestive symptoms to benefit?
No. Many people take it to know their baseline: diversity, balance and metabolic potential. If you do have symptoms such as bloating or irregularity, the report shows the microbial patterns associated with them, but it is not a diagnosis, and persistent symptoms should be seen by your GP.
How do I collect my stool sample at home?
With the collection kit: a small sample goes into the tube, whose liquid keeps the DNA stable on its way to the laboratory. Detailed instructions are printed in the kit. Collect between Monday and Thursday and post it back the same day in the prepaid envelope, ideally before midday, avoiding public holidays.
Will my results tell me which foods to eat?
Yes, as food-first guidance: which fibres and foods feed the beneficial bacteria you are low in, and what to ease off. It is nutrition guidance built on your profile, and the session with a nutrition specialist is there to turn it into a plan.
How accurate is metagenomic sequencing?
Shotgun metagenomic sequencing identifies bacteria at species level with high precision. Your result is a snapshot of the day the sample was taken, and the microbiome shifts with diet, medication and illness, so a retest is the way to see change over time.
How long until my results are ready?
Typically 2 to 4 weeks from the day your sample reaches the laboratory. You are notified when it arrives, and again when the report is released in the Phenome app; the specialist session can be booked as soon as the report is live.
Is my microbiome data kept private?
Your data is stored encrypted and processed under GDPR. It is never sold, never shared with insurers or employers, and is used for research only if you opt in separately. You can export or permanently delete it from your account at any time.
