Frequently asked questions.
What does the test analyse?
Treatable genetic conditions in newborns, so care can start early, before symptoms appear.
How is it different from the hospital heel-prick test?
The heel-prick test offered after birth checks a baby’s blood for a short list of conditions. This test reads your baby’s DNA across more than a thousand genes associated with inherited, metabolic, neurological and developmental conditions. It adds to the heel-prick test rather than replacing it, so keep to the screening your midwife offers.
What age should my baby be tested?
Shortly after birth, ideally within the first few weeks of life, so any actionable findings can be addressed as early as possible.
How do I collect my baby's sample at home?
With the gentle cheek swab in the kit: it is noninvasive, painless and safe for newborns, and detailed instructions are included. Post it back the same day in the prepaid envelope, ideally between Monday and Thursday, before midday.
What happens if a condition is flagged?
If a clinically relevant variant is found, a genetic counselling session is recommended. A specialist explains what the result means, outlines next steps, and gives guidance for any follow up care with your baby’s doctors.
Which conditions are treatable if caught early?
The screen concentrates on conditions where early care makes a difference, among them some thyroid and endocrine disorders, severe immune deficiencies, blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, and inherited metabolic conditions managed through diet. For each finding the report says what care is available, and a genetic counsellor goes through it with you.
How long until results come back?
Typically 2 to 4 weeks from the day the sample reaches the laboratory. Every finding is reviewed by certified genetic experts before the report is released to your secure profile in the app.
Is my baby's genetic data kept private?
Your baby’s DNA data is stored encrypted and processed under GDPR as special category data. It is never sold, never shared with insurers or employers, and is used for research only if you opt in separately. You can export or permanently delete it from your account at any time.
